I've been dying to show some of the wonderful photos from The Wedding University that took place earlier this year, but because many of the beautiful designs were being submitted to various blogs and publications, I was asked to hold off on posting photos here.
Two years ago, I co-founded The Wedding University with Jean Marks, and our goal was to teach couples the ins and outs of planning a wedding. We wanted to steer away from the conventional wedding fairs, were couples get bombarded with sales pitches and take-away bags filled with business cards and marketing brochures. Instead, we wanted to create a warm, intimate, and elegant environment for couples to be pampered and be treated to good food, champagne, and eye candy, while learning valuable information from top experts in the Bay Area to help them make wise decisions for their wedding planning. We have been told by attendees that The Wedding University did just that!
I am so proud to say that The Wedding University 2010 was a huge success! This year, Jean and I decided to step away from our teaching role, so that we can oversee the event in its entirety and sit in each of the classes. It was an amazing experience, and we were extremely proud as we listened to each of the professor teach passionately about the subjects they knew best.
I will post more about the event after I sort through all the fabulous photos but for now, I want to share an incredible video produced by Andrew Hsu of Studio MSV.
Andrew was a new addition to our Wedding University faculty this year, and he was definitely our 'rock star'. He arrived to the Four Seasons on Saturday afternoon, to film some of the 'behind the scenes' of our setup process. On Sunday, he continued filming throughout the day at The Wedding University, while working diligently on a 'same-day edit' in between his filming.
We saved Andrew's class for the very end, and many students commented on their evaluations that we 'saved the best for last'. He started his class off by showing this phenomenal, powerful same-day edit and everyone was both wow'd and touched at the same time. When he showed his latest demo, it touched so many brides, and they scrambled around looking for tissue to wipe away their tears. Then, Andrew shared with us the top 10 questions to ask an 'Event Filmmaker', and provided information and tips that were super useful. We all wish he had more time to teach!!

If you are engaged, and want to learn all the ins and outs of wedding planning, this is THE bridal event to attend! Our format is very different than traditional bridal fairs. Couples get to enjoy the first hour sampling exceptional culinary creations from the Four Seasons Silicon Valley, being inspired by 4 distinctive vignettes from our design team (see inspiration boards below), and getting to know other engaged couples.
Next, everyone will be gathered into the ballroom and be seated classroom style, for the first class which will be taught by wedding planner extraordinaire from Los Angeles--Mary Dann. Mary Dann will teach on the topic of 'Planning & Logistics', from budget to timeline to setting the right expectations for your wedding planning journey.
Students will then be separated into 3 smaller groups and rotate between classes to learn a variety of important topics, from photography to design to music and entertainment to beauty and attire. In between each class, they will get a short break, and the Four Seasons Silicon Valley will have a continual flow of excellent food!
At the end of the day, we will have a drawing for many amazing prizes! With such a small intimate group, each student has a very high chance of winning!

We have been super busy planning for the next Wedding University, and boy, we've got some AMAZING things in store for our attendees! We've also got some fabulous prizes in store, including a honeymoon stay at one of three luxurious Four Seasons Resort, an ipod with music especially suited for weddings, and tea for two at the lovely Crown & Crumpet in Ghiradelli Square.
We are currently having a holiday special. The price to attend The Wedding University has been reduced to $55 per person. Each additional person is $45. After January 15th, the price will be $75 per person, and $50 for each additional person.
